In Memory

Robert "Ed" Dyer

The last time I saw him was at the 30th year reunion. When he died, he was run off the road by a truck while on his Harley. He was the former mayor of Lake Havasu. He once lost a Super Bowl bet with friends, and had to ride through town in a parade wearing a pink tutu on his Harley with a tiara crown on!!

I'm sorry not to have known Ed as the semi-grown up Mayor.  I simply remember him as a high school friend with an easy smile, who was always quick with an appropriate quip or a good-hearted jab.  Wherever Ed was, there was sure to be a lot of laughter.  The world definitely has less joy in it, since we lost Ed's smile.

Eddie Dyer... what can I say?  Charley and I were both very saddened to hear this news.  What a fun and cheerful guy!  We have some great memories of the days of NBVA (Newport Beach VW Assn) and all the great times we had.  We met at Chet’s Gas Station many nights and waited for Skip Kaneaster and Ed to get off work so we could all party.      Ed was always fun in high school and I don’t think I ever even shared a class that I can remember.... great guy!!

It is really easy to think of Eddie becoming the mayor of Lake Havasu, a kind of paradise people flock to for fun in the sun. It would take someone thoughtful and steady, and with confidence to make and keep that happening. That is how I remember him in high school - a person drawn to fun, and also steady and confident and thoughtful. I am sorry to know he can no longer be there to keep the fun going for everyone, espicially the ones who knew and loved him.

So sorry to just learn he passed away! He was a good friend and part of NBVA and Anne Saurwein Davis reminded me of the nights at Chet's garage waiting for Ed and Skip to get off work, funny, thanks Anne for that piece of memory! RIP Ed, Ride on!

Eddie and I were good friends through high school and even after. The last time I saw him was around 1982. I just had another baby and he was at my church visiting. I was so sad when I found out about his passing. He was always so kind and thoughtful.

I went to the Senior Prom with Ed in 1968 when we were Juniors.  He was so much fun.  We double dated with Cathy Ferryman and Dennis Hall.  Ed drove us through the Jack in the Box before going to the Prom as a joke.  I was really sad when I heard of his death.    Donna Calvert Cook
