In Memory

Thelma Ann Hambly (Miles)

Ann was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 28, 1951.  While at CMHS she was a student assistant in the homemaking department.  She married Darrell Miles in 1973 and passed away on September 26, 1983.

One classmate remembers going to church with Thelma Ann, and remembers her as quiet and proper.  She dealt with lupus throughout her life, a challenge that perhaps led to her early death.  She was with us for too few years.

I am sorry to hear Ann has passed away. We rode the same bus to and from Maude B. Davis Int. School for close to two years. My family had moved to Costa Mesa in the middle of the fall semester in seventh grade and she was the first person I talked to as a new kid. She was generally very quiet but I recalll that though she didn't start conversations, she would talk to me - even though neither of us were big talkers. She had her own unique style and as I remember, was quite opinionated at times, both of which were new experiences for me. Both of these qualities bring a smile to me now. She had a lot of health issues which, as I recall, limited her particiation in school activities. I see she has a married name and I hope she had a happy life after high school. And I thank her for stretching my assumptions.

I remember having Thelma in my classes.  She was a sweet person, and I am so sorry to hear of her passing, especially so young.  She should have had many more years.
